About this service

Long distance moving companies: what we actually do on the day.

Long-distance moves are where the industry has the worst reputation, and most of the horror stories trace back to shared loads. We do not run them. Every interstate move on our schedule gets a dedicated truck, so your shipment is the only shipment on the vehicle. The same truck that loads is the truck that unloads, with the same crew and no terminal transfers.

As long-distance movers we work in one direction by design: moves out of New Jersey, with Florida and the Carolinas our most-requested routes, and moves back into New Jersey from out of state. Delivery is a specific day written in the contract, not a 14-day spread, with GPS check-ins during transit and full-value protection available.

What we do not do: quote a price that depends on a final weight measured after we have your belongings. You get a written estimate before we load the truck. It is an estimate, so the final number reflects the work actually done.

Where we do this

Long-Distance Moving is available across our central NJ coverage area: Middlesex County, Ocean County, Monmouth County, Union County, and Somerset County. Long-distance moves run out of NJ to most US destinations on a dedicated truck, with no shared loads and a specific delivery day in writing.

Routes out of New Jersey

Where these moves actually go.

Long distance for us means out of New Jersey. Three routes account for most of the year, and they are three different jobs, so it is worth knowing which one yours is before you call.

New Jersey to Florida

The route we run most. It is also the one where the closing date at the other end slips most often, and because we do not operate storage, a gap between dates is something to plan for rather than discover. We walk through the what-if before anything is booked. The full detail on this route is here .

New Jersey to the Carolinas

Second most-requested, and the one that has grown fastest. We moved the Lambert household from Bridgewater to Charlotte on a dedicated truck, same crew loading and unloading, which is the shape every one of these takes. Far enough that it is two days on the road, close enough that a specific delivery day is straightforward to commit to.

New Jersey to Pennsylvania

The one people are most surprised by. Pennsylvania is next door, so a move there feels local and is legally an interstate move: it crosses a state line, which puts it under federal rules and prices it on the shipment and the route rather than by the hour. Most of them load and unload the same day, and whether yours does is the single thing that moves the number most.

We move into New Jersey from out of state as well, and we run the rest of the East Coast from New England down to Virginia. If your destination is not listed, ask: the answer is usually yes.

Real reviews 5.0 on Google

What long-distance moving customers actually say.

Google

These guys are top notch! We had a pretty big job, half to storage and half to the new place. They showed up on time, wrapped everything perfectly, and took really good care of the house and the items being moved. 100% using these guys again in few months.

Our process

Four steps. Every move.

The walkthrough is what makes the estimate accurate, we see the inventory, the stairs, and the parking, and that's how we hand you a number that doesn't move on move day.

01

Walkthrough

A video tour or an in-person visit. We see the inventory, ask about parking, stairs, and timing, and the written estimate follows.

02

Plan & schedule

Confirm the date, send the written estimate, issue COI to the destination building if commercial, coordinate freight elevators with property management.

03

Execute

The same crew from the first box to the last. Pad-wrap, floor protection, inventory at the truck, dedicated truck (no shared loads on interstate), GPS check-ins during transit.

04

Walk the result

Unload, reassemble, place every piece where the customer wants it. Final walkaround together. Nothing leaves until everything is signed off.

Where we work

Central Jersey is home.
We move the whole state.

Fresh Start Movers is a family-run moving company based in Central New Jersey, working Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Union and Somerset counties town by town since 2018. We serve all 21 New Jersey counties for local moves and run licensed long-distance out of state on a dedicated truck. Rated 5.0 across 383+ Google reviews. NJ Public Movers License #39PM00129400.

The five counties we know best

These are the counties our trucks run every week, so each carries town-by-town pages with neighborhoods, drive times and the local detail that actually changes a move. Distances are from our Wall Township base.

Middlesex County, NJ
30 mi from the yard

Middlesex County, NJ

Middlesex is our busiest county north of the shore. Heavy mix of Rutgers faculty and graduate-student moves around New Brunswick, plus the Route 1 corridor's tech and pharma relocations. NJ Turnpike and Route 287 access makes it straightforward to reach from Wall Township, and most Middlesex moves are scheduled inside the same week we get the quote signed.

Ocean County, NJ
12 mi from the yard

Ocean County, NJ

The closest county to our Wall Township base after our own, about fifteen minutes down Route 35. Ocean work splits three ways: family moves through Toms River and Brick, downsizing out of the retirement communities across Berkeley, Barnegat and western Toms River, and barrier-island moves at Ortley Beach and Normandy Beach where houses sit raised on pilings and a long carry is the rule. Those are three different jobs and we crew them differently.

Monmouth County, NJ
Dispatch yard

Monmouth County, NJ

Monmouth is home: our base is on Route 34 in Wall Township, so these jobs get the shortest drive times we can offer. Coverage runs from the bayshore villages through Red Bank and Holmdel out to the estate lanes of Rumson and Colts Neck, and down through the shore towns.

Union County, NJ
40 mi from the yard

Union County, NJ

Older, denser and largely pre-war. Westfield, Cranford and Summit bring narrow staircases, tight original doorways and plaster walls that need padding before anything moves. Two rail lines mean a lot of Union moves are timed to a first day in Manhattan.

Somerset County, NJ
42 mi from the yard

Somerset County, NJ

The widest range of access conditions of any county we serve: Bedminster estate drives and The Hills association rules at one end, Hillsborough's wide new subdivisions at the other, with Bridgewater's corporate corridor and Somerville's downtown apartments in between.

Every county in the state

All 21 of them. Five have their own pages with town-by-town detail so far; the other 16 are served exactly the same way.

Long-distance runs on a dedicated truck. The same crew loads in New Jersey and unloads at the destination, never co-mingled with another shipment, with a delivery date in the contract rather than a two-week window.

FAQ

Long-Distance Moving: common questions

The questions people ask before booking this service, answered plainly.

Ask us anything

Do you use a dedicated truck or a shared load?

Dedicated, on every interstate move. Your shipment is the only shipment on the vehicle, the crew that loads in New Jersey is the crew that unloads at the destination, and there is no terminal transfer in the middle. Shared loads are cheaper and they are where most long-distance complaints come from.

Will I get a delivery date or a delivery window?

A specific calendar day, written into the contract. The industry standard is a window of up to fourteen days, which exists because a shared truck waits to fill. A dedicated truck does not have to wait, so it can commit to a date.

Which states do you move to most?

Florida is the route we run most often, and the Carolinas are next. We handle moves out of New Jersey and back into it from out of state.

What licensing should an interstate mover have?

USDOT authority and ICC/MC operating authority for household goods, which is separate from a state license. You can check any mover on the FMCSA SAFER register, where you want to see AUTHORIZED FOR HHG rather than just an active number. Ours are USDOT 3855223 and MC-1609840, so you can run that check on us before you call anyone else.

How much do movers cost for 200 miles?

Two hundred miles out of New Jersey is the distance that surprises people most. It is far enough to cross a state line, so it is an interstate move under federal rules and priced on the shipment and the route rather than by the hour, and it is close enough that most of these jobs load and unload on the same day. That single question, whether the truck can finish in one day, moves the number more than the mileage does. A second day means overnight costs and a second crew start. We confirm which one your move is during the walkthrough, before anything goes on paper.

What is the least expensive way to move cross country?

Honestly, it is not us. The cheapest options are driving a rental truck yourself, or a portable container that you load and a carrier hauls. A shared load with a van line sits in between, and it is where most of the long-distance complaints you read come from, because your goods wait for the truck to fill and the delivery date becomes a window of up to two weeks. We run dedicated trucks, which costs more and is the reason we can put a specific delivery day in the contract. If the budget is the only thing that matters on your move, a container is usually the right call and we will tell you so on the phone.
